TIPP WIN A CREDIT TO THE TEAM AND MANAGEMENT

To say I'm a happy Tipperary man after our All Ireland hurling final win would be an understatement in the extreme. I'm absolutely thrilled, for the players, for the management, for Liam Sheedy and all the backroom staff. It was an unbelievable performance where there was no dispute as to who were the better team.
I was quietly confident going into the game that we would do it and despite Kilkenny clawing back to just within a point at half time, I still believed we'd do it. The performance of all the players was at 100% and when Tipp are in that form, with such a young team as well, they are unstoppable. They were so determined to wipe out the memories of last year.
I was standing about three rows behind Eoin Kelly when he lifted the cup. He's a fantastic captain and a great person. His speech sshowed that. The scenes afterwards around Dublin will live with me forever. That night at the reception in the Burlington will remain in the same eternity of mind.
It got better when the team returned to Thurles on Monday to an unbelievable crowd, despite the rain coming down around us. Nothing was going to stop this party. Alas I was off to Strasbourg on Tuesday morning, tired but happy, but returned on Thursday night to see the cup being paraded in my home parish of Portroe, the same parish of Liam Sheedy and Darren Gleeson. It was a unique occasion and a momentus one for the little village with the proud tradition.
