Kelly Leads Labour Hurling Team On Rout Of Fine Gael in Hurling Charity Challenge
Posted on March 21, 2012 by Alan Kelly
I had a brilliant night at the inaugural Labour/Fine Gael Charity hurling challenge which took place in Dublin last week. The match was played under flood lights late on Tuesday night, March 13th and I was the only member of the Government to line out on the night. Labour comprehensively beat Fine Gael by 6-8 to 1-2. I did Portroe proud playing at full back where I was joined by joined on the Labour team by Cappawhite's Jim McGrath and Kiladangan's Ger Slattery. It was great fun and raised some funds for the Merrymount Hospice in Cork.

Integrated Ticketing
Posted on November 30, 2011 by Alan Kelly
I was delighted to unveil the new Leap Card, the long-promised integrated ticketing for Dublin. After 12 years of promises, it’s great to see this project final get off the ground, a positive move for integrated travel. I have worked extremely hard to get this project moving as I felt it was important to commuters. We have 500 customers testing the system for us at the moment and we’ll take their feedback so that the final launch is as smooth as possible.

€600,000 for South Tipp Smarter Travel Projects
Posted on November 27, 2011 by Alan Kelly
I’m thrilled to note that since my time in office over €600,000 has been allocated to projects in South Tipperary as part of the Smarter Travel Initiative. This funding provides a small boost for the local economy and encourages cycling and walking and more sustainable transport.
Tipperary is one of the counties that has benefited greatly from the jobs initiative.
The funding forms part of a €2 million national package for smarter travel measures.

KELLY CONGRATULATES PRESIDENT ELECT MICHAEL D HIGGINS: LABOUR'S GREATEST DAY
Posted on October 31, 2011 by Alan Kelly
I must congratulate Michael D. Higgins, our President Elect on his fantastic victory.
My colleague and friend Michael D. Higgins is a man of huge courage, conviction and vision. He has always been a hero of mine and an inpiration to me and that's why I am so proud of his victory in this Presidential election. Michael D helped and encouraged me to get into electoral politics with the Labour party when I first got elected to the Senate in 2007 and I will never forget him for that.

Becoming Minister For Public Transport & Commuter Affairs
Posted on March 11, 2011 by Alan Kelly
I got a phone call early on Thursday March 10th to ask if I would make my way to Government Buildings as the Tanaiste wished to speak to me. I had enjoyed a great day previous as it was my first day in the Dail as a sitting TD. I got in there as quickly as possible and met Sean Sherlock who had been asked to come in as well.

First Day in Dail Eireann
Posted on March 09, 2011 by Alan Kelly
It was with great pride and emotion I entered the gates of Leinster House on my first day in Dail Eireann. I know the place well. I had been going in there during my days in Labour Youth, as someone who held various posts in the Labour party and as an ordinary member. I had also been in there as a Senator and MEP but there was definitely something differnt about being a TD.

Election Celebration Gig - Nenagh Abbey Court Hotel
Posted on March 06, 2011 by Alan Kelly
We had a great night in the Abbey Court Hotel. I could not get over the crowd that turned up. It was simply fantastic. It was a night to thank all my family, friends and supporters for all the work they did for me. At the end of the day they are the reason I was elected TD.
It was a specail night also for all the lads who had worked with me for so long, Tracey, Deirdre and Michelle in particular along with John, Colm and DEan as well as many others. They delivered for me when it mattered most. I had a specail word for my DOE Liam Gleeson, a mountain of drive, common sense and loyalty. I'll never forget all the work he got through.

Elected TD For North Tipperary/South Offaly
Posted on February 27, 2011 by Alan Kelly
I am absolutely thrilled to have been elected as a TD for my constituency. It is a great honour to follow in the foot steps of John Ryan and Paddy Tierney. I want to thank all those that voted firstly and in particular to those 9,559 who gave me their first preference. It was a dream fulfilled for me to be elected a TD for this constituency, a dream I had since I was very young. I will do my very best to represent you and work hard for you over the coming years.

NAMA CAUSED FURTHER AIB BAILOUT: I PUBLISH COMMISSIONER ALMUNIA LETTER
Posted on January 10, 2011 by Alan Kelly
I have just published the letter from EU Commission Vice President, Joaquin Almunia, explaining how AIB passed banking stress tests last July but was eventually nationalised by year-end. (See text of letter below this blog.)
It is clear that the latest AIB bailout was effectively caused by NAMA and the failure of the government to predict these losses while also taking the bank’s position at face value.
Commissioner Almunia makes it clear in his letter that NAMA’s second discount on AIB loans immediately required an additional €3b cash. This could only come from the Irish taxpayer.
When the government first stress tested the bank, it underestimated the NAMA discount – even though NAMA is a state-body. Was there no co-ordination on this by the Finance Minister?

TIPPERARY NORTH LABOUR PARTY SELECTION CONVENTION
Posted on December 20, 2010 by Alan Kelly
Friday, December 17th will always be a proud datte for me as I fulfilled a dream of becoming the Labour party's Dail General Election candidate. A large crowd attended the Convention in The Rag, Thurles despite the terrible weather conditions. It was a very special night for myself and my family who have been involved in the Labour party for many years. I was especially pleased to see so many new faces at the event who want a change and I'm delighted that they see me as the avenue to that change in North Tipperary. I was nominated to run by Ger Lewis from Nenagh. Ger is one of the most popular Labour members I have ever met. Last year he along with his brother Frank were gold medal winners for their contribution to the Labour party. My Party Leader Eamon Gilmore is a good friend of his. His electoral knowledge is fantastic and he has been a great friend of mine for many years. Michael Shanhan is a good old friend of mine from Roscrea, whose father Tommy Shanahan was a long time Councillor for the party in that area. I was delighted to have the calibe of these two great individuals to propose and second me.
