EU COMMITTEE REPORTS ON GOVT'S HANDLING OF EU DELL MONEY
Posted on June 25, 2010 by Alan Kelly
The report submitted by the select group of MEP's who visited Limerick to examine the handling of the Dell EGF funds have confirmed all the issues I have highlighting.
The Government’s handling of the EU retraining money for former Dell workers has now proven beyond doubt to be shambolic.

GOVERNMENT MUST NOT REPEAT DELL MISTAKES WITH WATERFORD CRYSTAL
Posted on June 14, 2010 by Alan Kelly
The European Parliament votes tomorrow on the allocation of funds for Waterford Crystal workers and I am calling on the Government to publish a detailed plan on how they will use the funding.
It is no secret that serious mistakes have been made by the government in dealing with the European Globalisation Funding for the former Dell Workers.

A Big Week for Former Dell/Mid West Workers as EGF Starts Rolling
Posted on February 11, 2010 by Alan Kelly
This is a huge week for the former workers in Dell, Banta, Flextronics, Irish Express Cargo and the other companies that were closed as a result of the Dell pullout of Limerick in January 2009. On Wednesday morning I met with the EU Commissioner for Employment, Mr. Andor and got assurances regarding the flexibility of the EGF scheme that can be used for job placement, training and starting your own business. These are the three key pillars under which workers can used their share of the €2.8 million that was allocated to them.

Meeting Commissioner Andor
Posted on February 10, 2010 by Alan Kelly
On Wednesday I met with Commissioner for Employment Affairs, Laszlo Andor. He is the Hungarian Commissioner and an exceptionally approacable and likeable person. My request for the meeting was principally to get an update on the Dell EGF fund and he told me that the fund was very flexible as regards its administration and also that it would be released this week to the Irish Government. I also got an assurance that the Waterford Crystal fund would be passed by the Commission soon and before the Parliament by March or April, which I broadly welcomed. WE also spoke about the SR Technics application and a number of other issues which I am persuing with the Commissioner on behalf Ireland and my constituents.

Elected President of the Dell Workers Association
Posted on December 11, 2009 by Alan Kelly
On Friday last I was elected Honorary President of the Dell Workers Committee following my involvement in securing €22.8m for the Dell Workers who lost their jobs as a result of the closure of Limerick based company early this year. I've also helped the Workers in a number of actions in the Labour Court to generate better redundancy payments. I stand fully beside the workers in all their aims and thats why I have attended every public meeting they've had and put my office at their disposal.

Dell Funds Passed by European Parliament
Posted on November 24, 2009 by Alan Kelly
This was a very important week in Strasbourg where the European Parliament voted through the European Globalisation Funds for the Dell Workers who lost their jobs early in the year. It also affects related workers from other companies that supplied Dell, such as Banta and Flextronics. I was personally glad that all the lobbying and hard work paid off.

Fighting For EU Support for Dell Workers
Posted on October 20, 2009 by Alan Kelly
For eight months now I have been working with the DELL Workers Group on trying to secure them a better deal following the withdrawal of the DELL company from much of its plant in Limerick. This has had a huge impact on the economic well being of the Mid West as a result of the thousands of job losses amongst families in Limerick, Tipperary, Clare, Kerry and Cork.
