Nenagh A&E The End
Posted on April 06, 2009 by Alan Kelly
Today begun with the first debate of the European campaign. The debate took place in Limerick 95s studio and was attended by four of the candidates including myself. It was an eventful day after that and this evening was quite a sad one for me as the doors of Nenagh Hospital closed at 8pm. From now on the HSE intend to transfer all self admitted A&E patients to Limerick Regional.

The Fight For Mallow Hospital
Posted on March 14, 2009 by Alan Kelly
On Thursday I was in Mallow and was greated by the Mayor of the town, James Kennedy. James is a sound fella and was really helpful to me. I even got the official Mallow tie pin! We canvassed the town with some of the local members and the reception was good. Mallow is a very strong Labour town, given the Sherlock tradition. It slso has many great local activists and Cllr. Jerry Mullally has always been very helpful to me.

Save Nenagh Hospital Rally
Posted on February 02, 2009 by Alan Kelly
On Saturday Jan 31st, over 1500 people turned up at the Nenagh GAA complex to protest against the planned cuts in services at Nenagh General Hospital. After leaking the initiall report that proved that these cuts were on the cards, I was delighted to see the crowd. These include A&E, surgery and intensive care. The crowd could have been much larger but for the lack of capacity in the hall and many were turned away or stayed outside listening to the proceedings on loud speakers.
The rally heard from many speakers including Peadar McMahon of the Monaghan Hospital Action Group. Other speakers fromt he platform included doctors, consultants and the the Mayor of Nenagh, who spoke on behalf of the town council.
The HSE failed to turn up.

HSE Lacks Transparency: It is Time to Stand Up for Nenagh Hospital
Posted on December 20, 2008 by Alan Kelly
Nenagh Hospital as we know it is under threat.
The fact is that the HSE have over a year ago completed the infamous 'Teamwork' Report into acute services in the Mid West and they are still refusing to publish it. This beggars belief. They are refusing to publish a report that will decide the very future of how our hospitals work, yet they have put in place 'reconfiguration' teams to implement the recommendations of this as yet unpublished report.
There is no transparency in this and it is simply an exercise to stifle debate and push through Mary Harney and Brendan Drumm's ideologically driven policies and beliefs. This is certainly undemocratic and shows an attitude towards the public that leaves a lot to be desired.
