Solutions exist to avert nurses’ strike

Labour Party health spokesperson Alan Kelly TD has said the Minister for Health must honour their proposals passed by the Dáil on the nurses strike.

Deputy Kelly said

“According to the INMO, the HSE and the Department of health have made no proposals to averting strike action due to take place in just over a week.

“As the threat of strike action becomes more of a reality it is not feasible for the government to continue to ignore the position of nurses in the INMO and the PNA.

“The review of the public sector pay agreement notes that arrangements can be put in place to examine nurses pay.

“Last week the Dáil passed measures proposed by Labour, Sinn Fein, Independents4Change and the Social Democrats that called on the government to commission a review into the nursing profession that properly lays out the scale of extra work and duties that nurses carryout and how nurses could be compensated for this.

“The time for has come for some flexibility on the part of the government and the Dáil has called on the government to bring imaginative solutions to the table these must be carried out.”
